Originally conceived and orchestrated to raise awareness of a rarely diagnosed chromosomal disorder known as 22q11.2 deletion syndrome, the pageant has
also provided the perfect platform for all young people with special needs to showcase their individual talents and abilities. In the years since it began, the pageant has given rise to both a celebration of individuality and a community of spirit that is as “rarely” found as the syndrome which inspired it.
Miss 22 Quties welcomes young women ages 14 to 25 years with all types of special needs. These extraordinary ladies open the show with a choreographed dance number, followed by the chance to share their unique and varied talents with the audience.
Next, the young ladies take part in the traditional pageant Q&A where the girls don their evening gowns, while being escorted by young men who may also have a special need. The pageant concludes with the announcement of miss congeniality, first and second runners-up and finally the crowning of the new Miss 22 Qutie.
The goal of Miss 22 Quties is to provide a platform where all youth and young adults with special needs can display their abilities and REALLY shine through their everyday struggles.
We watch as our contestants grow in their personal developement through friendships and having a stage to simply show what they can do instead of what they can not.
